Pico/nano can be used to convert the files between unix/dos/mac format. Although I've never personally used it for this purpose, but I know of someone else that had a problem because they unintentionally kept saving files in dos format. once you've done ctrl+x, then Y or yes, you can do alt+D to change to dos/ or from dos to unix. Maybe that will help *shrug* GL

Oh and almost forgot, the best I could tell on the thing about the help files is that it is probably just extra spaces between the last part and the new line, I remember seeing lots of them over time in help files and a quick editing of the help.dat manually and just removing extra spaces at the end tends to fix the issue.

The ^M is a windows thing and will cause issues, It has been ages so I don't remember the syntax for changing it from windows to unix format. I'm sure someone else can tell you the command though. The copyright symbol is suppose to be used in help.dat because Samson wanted to get away from using ~ and having to change it to - and chang it back etc.... He choose it because it isn't on as a standard button. Copy and paste work great for editing help files manually for that one. As was pointe

I can at least answer your last question: No. You don't need to remove the .o files, as they'll automatically be removed/replaced upon compile/recompile. :)

I natively use ubuntu desktop on my laptop; I downloaded from this site, gunziped & tar -xf on this machine.. I only use my windows workstation for audio/video editing. I don't plan to deploy to a remote site any time soon. If I can get everything working, I was fancying that I can have it run concurrently with on my foreign server & use ssh tunnel for telnet?.. kinda like 'whistle while you work' in the group :innocent: On a second note, do I need to rm anything like .o's when I recompil
