Haha no worries, just keep in mind the CentOS packages of gcc are a little ways downstream from release (or last I knew of anyhow). I personally love Cent. Can't do anything better for server wise. Just don't try to make it a 'desktop', for fun* I tried that and well...lets say unless you enjoy building rpms yourself get Fedora or Mint. ayuri *My idea of fun isn't most normal folks idea of fun.

nice lol as it turns out, build-essentials, gcc/g++, zlib were all that were really needed...except my code wasn't updated to the most recent gcc version, so I had to go through and update it--what a pain the rear that was! and running CentOS 6. so, I am actually up and running now, but thanks much for the reply, ayuri! :)

zlib and its devels - for compression. There is also one for crypto I'm pretty sure of. Also a csh shell unless the startup file is bash compatible. Normal GNU tools such as make and the like and what ever other packages -THAT- needs (IE GCC). I can fire up smaugfuss on my centos box at home in the next few days - she's a fresh install of 5.2, what version are you running? I'd like to know so I can match version to version in my vm environment. What I've done in the past is get gcc instal

I don't know offhand, but you could easily trial-and-error. Or take a look at the package list here: http://www.gammon.com.au/smaug/installingcygwin.htm

Hey all, Currently working to establish CentOS on a server, but I don't happen to know all of the packages that need to be installed. If anyone could give a list or point to a list, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Aurin
