Looks pretty good!
Two suggestions for this particular image. Clip the bottom at the bottom-left corner of the dragon's neck, that way you get a clean edge that doesn't make it look like the head itself is floating without a body.
Also, if you don't want some kind of image as a backdrop, you might want to hand-blur the shadow of the dragon a bit, and perhaps make it a darker shade of grey. In fact, if you can find a billowing smoke cloud as a backdrop, casing the shadow (blurry) onto that might work quite well.

Updated the test image which what I think might be the final. I want to test it on the site itself to see what it looks like though, so don't be surprised if you check the site at one point over the next couple days and the banner from this thread loads instead of the old one.

Alright, had a look at it on the site, sortof. Couldn't remember what all to change to fix the margins at the top to show it, so some of it was hanging down under the top areas, but whatever. It looks good on the site with the background in place. So I think as long as no one sees any issues with it, we're good to go on getting the new banner in place.

It's in place now. You'll need to do a forced refresh to update the CSS to make it show.

Very nice!
It works quite well with the diagonal line texture too, I approve!

I was worried it would look a little big once it was up there, but it really did turn out nicely.
