Hello all.
I am returning to the hobby after a very long hiatus, and thought I would poke my nose in, and have a look around. Back in the day, I used to play with SMAUG code, and liked it very much. I did a little bit of coding here and there, as I could, and had great fun.
Been trying to catch up with the changes made since I last dabbled in the hobby, and am gratified to see a lot progress made. When I last was active, SMAUG 1.4a was the latest thing, so obviously there's a lot to catch up on!
I have downloaded the SMAUG 1.8 source, as well as the SMAUGFuss 1.9 (SMAUGFuss idea is a great one!) source, to run through and check out the new additions, but was wondering if anyone had worked up a simple list of changes that has happened from 1.4a to 1.8? That would be most helpful.
Came here, because I remember Samson and have always greatly respected his work, but are there any other venues where the mudding community mainly 'hangs out'?
Also, is the SMAUG mailing list now defunct? I can't seem to get on it, if not....
Anyhoo...will likely mostly be a lurker, here on the forums...but may stick my nose out, from time to time.
Happy mudding

Welcome back to the hobby, Sadiq.
All of the FUSS changes are in the Bugfix list. As for differences between the official RoD releases, I don't know of any lists of changes.
As far as I know, the Mailing list is in fact defunct now, I believe Vladaar has a copy of the archives on his website though if you're looking to take a trip down memory lane.
As for where the community hangs out, I'd venture to say that's a toss up between The Mud Connector, MUDBytes, and TopMudSites. MUDBytes is a very developer centric community, where TMC and TMS are more a mix of both. MudLab is still around, as are a few of the other niche sites.
Unfortunately, Samson has kind of taken a step back from the Mudding community and has left most of the operations here to me. But he does pop in still. Most of Samson's focus now-a-days is on the Oblivion Modding community.

Sadiq! So you showed up not dead yet! Let that be a lesson to the others....
It's definitely been a long time since you were around if Smaug 1.4a was the latest thing. That seems like so long ago now.
As far as community hangouts, it really depends on what you're after. For reasons best covered in private, I'd recommend avoiding mudbytes or TMC. Nick Gammon's forum is still up and running, catering mostly to Smaug people in addition to his work on Mushclient.
Yes, the Smaug mailing list is dead. As Kayle said, Vladaar has an archive of it up on 6dragons.org if you want to poke around. I'm not sure how long ago it dropped out of use, but it's been a long time now.
Also you might notice we kept your stuff warm in the repository if you feel like another trip down memory lane

MB certainly has its ups and downs, but it gets more traffic (or at least, more participant traffic) than this website and if you're looking to ask coding questions, it is most likely a better resource, simply because more eyes see it -- there are some pretty good people who visit there but not here.

Welcome back!
I also want to mention IMC.
http://www.mudbytes.net/intermud
You can telnet to mudbytes.net 2000 if you don't have IMC on a MUD and chat it up with us.
