NEWS FLASH - Dateline USA:

( This pertains mostly to those who log on to the mud, but I figured on posting
it here in a more permanent manner )

Contrary to popular opinion, the staff of this mud has real life obligations
to see to on a daily basis. If you are here in the dead of night expecting
immediate responses to your inquiries about AFKMud, Alsherok, IMC2, Arthmoor,
Quicksilver Forums, or anything else Samson or the rest of the staff is
involved in, you might want to consider this fascinating invention someone
came up with several years ago. It goes by the quaint name of "email" and is
actually proven to be quite effective when used properly and in a civil,
polite manner.

If email is not to your liking, there's another fascinating invention that
came about a bit later on known as "forums" and, lo, we have one of those too!
http://smaugmuds.afkmods.com If you have something you'd like to ask, and it
may be of benefit to others, it's usually best to ask there and get an answer
that can at least be on record for others who might not have thought to ask.

And lastly, if this message seems cold, harsh, or whatever, then you need
to grow a thicker skin. The folks who gave so freely of their time to bring
you this mud have moved on. It happens. People grow up. Things change.
While some of us may yet remain to provide continuing support, having to put
up with those who expect instant gratification at midnight during a work week
doesn't make it any more enjoyable. You might want to think about that at some
point. One day your own life will change and you'll know exactly what we're
talking about. You'll make one of those instant demands of an instructor, a
fellow student, a coworker, or even your boss and find out they don't appreciate
it much and let you know about it. Possibly in ways you won't like. Maybe even
in the form of a nasty email very much like this message here.

If you're still reading this after all that, we commend you. Yes, this mud will
be relatively empty. We are aware of this and at this time are not seeking any
form of active advertisement to correct this. We had our day when this place
was home to 50 people a night. That day passed. We're ok with this. This mud
exists mainly as a showcase for the features that AFKMud has to offer the
community. As long as things don't deteriorate to the point where even this
is undesirable then you will be able to enjoy what we've got to offer. But
don't push it, because shutting this place down to the public would be one
of those nasty consequences of making continuous demands for instant responses
of the folks who remain.

Bootlicking's bound to not get you very far with Samson.. ;)

Seriously, from what we talked about in ichat last night, this doesn't really even sound like a excessively harsh response given the situation. Everyone has ample reason at this point to already be aware that Alsherok is not really an active mud anymore but more of a development test site for AFKmud's codebase. As such, it's really silly for someone to rant on an empty mud or to assume that the immortals are online but invis'd, and downright foolish to think that if they really were online but invis'd they'd change that status to attend you because you demanded it, on any mud. Personally if I was logged onto my mud and invis'd and some person created a new character on my mud and then started demanding that I come address their personal issues and stop being invis'd, I'd prolly not only not say anything to them, but would instead silence them and change their character's mental state to -100 or so... or just destroy their character.

It's amazing to see how similar is players' behaviour and expectations all around the world: my mud is in Italy and my players are whining and crying all day long for identical reasons.

Maybe we found out the long-awaited recipe for nations' equality?

What's that? To just have our leaders AFK at nights but still able to check logs of messages directed at them the previous day? We already have that in most countries, you send a letter or an email to your nation's leader and their people in charge of correspondence will log that it was recieved and roughly what it's content was before they discard it, then said leader will later on decide whether (s)he cares enough to check the logs for a given day and tell his/her staff how to respond if (s)he decides it's worth responding to.. or were you declaring your support for Samson as the new World Leader? ;)

My evil plot unfolds at last! I've finally convinced someone to support me for World Leader. You're all doomed! Doomed I say!
