When one looks at the Smaug code, it is hard to NOT notice how many half-assed projects were never completed. Polymorphs, planes, classes, plus probably alot more that I havn't noticed yet. Anyways;

What are planes, for first, and second, how can you remove it entirely? I know its in planes.c and planes.h, but I don't know how many refrences there are to those two files (I'm going to look into removing that, unless there is a real purpose for them)

Polymorphs I would almost like to keep, but again, I don't think it was fully finished (not that I have played with it. I havn't needed to), and if it isn't, is there something out there that can tell a fella how to complete it?

Also, before I go code-diving to see what else may not be completed, anyone know of something else that remains unfinished that ranks up in size of those two? Right now I'm all for reducing file size, since I'd like to remove alot from the codebase (I plan on stripping out most of the spell_* and using smaugspells with them, and use an slookup->* to replace them in the code so that there isn't a need to recompile the entire MUD and hotboot every time someone wants to change a spell effect...

You know, I've never really been convinced that any of those were unfinished but rather poorly stripped when they went through and tried to strip stuff out for release so the release version wouldn't have everything that Realms of Despair had.

Polymorph and most of the others have 'fixes' posted to the SmaugFUSS forums and are 'fixed' in the current SmaugFUSS 1.6 version, if I'm not mistaken.

And for the record, morphs are fully functional in AFKMud as well. It's only a matter of someone sitting down to create some using the built in OLC commands for it.

I still don't see the purpose of planes. Morphs I'll look into working with, but planes still elude me.

I think the idea was that you could create areas that could only be reached if you had the ability to travel the planes or some such, but I've tried to play with the planes code myself and not really been able to understand how it works. *shrug*

As far as I understood it planes were supposed to give you a way to create alternate physics or climates or something to that affect. However the true intent can't really be determined from the crap the Smaugdevs left behind for us to use.

Very sadly, that's ever so true. What they left behind will allow you to 'define' several planes, but beyond naming them so they exist as a list that can accessed by immortals, there's not enough code there to do anything beyond that. *shrug*

Actually I'm having a problem with morphset save. It crashes the mud and deletes not only the morph you're trying to create but the one before it. I'll check the smaugfuss boards but anybody come across this? I don't really see why it's not working or is crashing the mud.
